Visiting Florida

We are currently in Miami Florida.  Since our last post we traveled to Daytona Beach for New Years and had a great time partying there.  There was a street which had 5 bands, open bars, lots of dancing and too many people.  It made for quite a night.  We visited Daytona International Speedway and got to tour the facility.  Tom was very excited.

After we left there we headed to see Mickey Mouse and his gang at Disney World.  We plunked ourselves in Orlando for 10 days.  About 3 days after we arrived we started our Disney World adventure and bought 4 days of passes to the parks.  We thought it might not be too crowded with it being January. Well we were wrong because we happen to show up on the Disney Marathon weekend.  So it was pretty well packed.  Given we don't go to Disney much we didn't understand the whole speed pass thing at first and we thought it was like years ago with Tom being handicapped we could go in the exit and not wait in line.  Unfortunately they still make you get a speed pass and wait.  Big disappointment....

We visited Epcot first and loved it.  We ate our way around the world which was fun but added a few pounds I am sure.  The Animal Kingdom part was great, lots of wonderful animals to enjoy.  We finally went to the Magic Kingdom and I have to say it wasn't Disneyland and I was a bit disappointed.  There was a lot of construction and they had almost all of Fantasy Land closed.  It was so crowded we could hardly walk around.

There was a Cirque Du Soleil there which we saw and loved.

Alas we left Orlando and headed to the Coast and a place called Malabar just south of Melbourne.  With our RV site on US 1 we could see The Indian River which is part of the Atlantic Ocean.  The traffic wasn't noisy or a bother at all.  While there we went to Kennedy Space Center and got to see a Rocket blast off with a satellite on it.   Too bad it was at night but seeing the glow was pretty cool.

After 2 weeks there we ventured back North to Titusville so Tom could attend a Wildlife and Bird Expo.  He had 4 days of bird watching and we supposed to go on a 12 hour boat ride but it was cancelled because of weather.

Upon leaving Titusville we ventured South to Miami, which is were we are now.  This is a very crowed City with lots of traffic.  On Saturday the 4th we traveled down to Key West to spend the day and it was a glorious day.  We sat and watched the boats come in and out while we ate lunch.  We walked from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean and saw Hemingway's House.  Then Tom surprised me with a Bi Plane ride at sunset for my birthday.  We flew over the ocean and waiting to sunset but it didn't materialize since the clouds got in the way.  But it was a great ride all the same.  We came back and hung out on Sunday which was a bit rainy.

We leave here on Thursday and head to Naples Florida then up the western coast....

More to come....  Pictures are coming.  Tom is having issues with his storage drive right now.

Happy New Year 2012

Since our last blog post we settled in Atlanta for the week of Christmas at a place just east of town called Stone Mountain.  Simply put a beautiful oasis (pictures coming).  We stayed a week and met a great couple when we checked in.  Well lets back up a bit here.  Upon coming into town we tried to find a Walmart to stay at for the first night, our rule of thumb is to stay at a Walmart the first night to save on camping fees.  No sense in paying for a night's camping when it's only for 5 or 6 hours.  Make sense..we think so...anyway I take Tom (in the rain) through some pretty hairy turns and traffic filled streets to find this Walmart which has a parking lot the size of a postage stamp.  At which time we realize he can't get in and we have to head back to the freeway through the traffic at rush hour in the rain with all 65' of motorhome train behind us.  Mind you it's also shopping time for the holidays too.

So I find a campground and now it's dark so we pull in after hours with still more rain behind these nice people who are checking in as well.  We opt for a space a couple of loops over from them with a pull through for our 45' of motorhome near the lake according to the map.  In hind sight I could not have found a worse spot for us to park.  Anyway...we head over there with me in the car in front of Tom I should have told him to just pull on around and go back to the office.  But Noooo....He pulls in and up on to this little hill to try to find a crown on this hill, with a turn in the trees, on a curve...can you say stupid.  Well after a minute or two and a few camper coming out to look at us like we were stupid we pulled on out and up the hill, the heck out of there and headed back to the office.  Found another site and turned out to park on the back side of the people who were checking in when we got there.

We hung out with them a couple of days, had dinner and went on a train ride around the mountain.  There was a great golf course there we played 10 holes which was beautiful.

After leaving there we went to Savannah Georgia for a couple of days in Fort McAllister for 2 nights.  We found fresh shrimp just caught that day and cooked it up, simply perfect.  Then we headed down to Daytona Beach for New Years and partied down there.

Just arrived in Orlando for 12 days to visit Disney World and see what all fuss is about here.  Then going to head south from here.

Tom will be downloading some pictures soon.

An update from Thanksgiving to Christmas

We finally made it out of Elkhart Indiana on December 9 at night after they finished our RV remodel.  One that was supposed to take 2 weeks took a month.  A cabinet that was supposed to be one priced turned out to be 3 times more.  They were supposed to install it in 2 hours and it took 3 days.  Okay enough of my ranting.  We're done finally and head out after a little snow falls the previous days, south to Indianapolis.  Not a great town in my opinion but we wanted to do the INDY 500 museum.  So we stopped and became WALMARTIANS for a night.  Which means we stay in a Walmart parking lot so we don't have to find an RV park and pay just to sleep.  Hey we can live self contained for a good 3-5 days if we have water.

Anyway finished in Indianapolis and travel south to Louisville, Kentucky.  A town rich with history and beautiful architecture.  We truly loved this place.  We thought this was where Tom's Great Grandfather had lived but after some research at the Library come to find out he actually loved in Newport which is north and east of where we were.  It was interesting to do some genealogical work on finding out more about his family though.

We visited Churchill Downs, Kentucky Derby Museum, The Brown Hotel, and Jim Beam distillery.  I highly recommend all of these especially Jim Beam because if you do a tour you get 2 shots after the tour of special label Jim Beam.  On the cold day we were there warmed us right up.

Another perk while we were there was visiting with a long ago friend of mine from Jr high and high school, she calls Louisville home.

After being there for a week we heading South yesterday toward Nashville.  We thought this would be a good place for Christmas.  Staying at Walmart again we dropped anchor and took off to look around a little and found this place to be a bit of a tourist trap.  All the shows are booked or dark for Christmas so there's not much to do.  So we will be taking off here in a few hours and then heading south and east to Chattanooga then on to Atlanta.

Hopefully more to update you all on with some pictures when we get to Florida.
